Lumi's blackout performance comes from a physical triple-weave construction built into the fabric itself — not from acrylic foam or chemical coatings applied to the surface. The three-layer weave creates a structurally dense barrier that light physically cannot pass through, regardless of the panel's overall weight. This means Lumi maintains its blackout performance through repeated washing, unlike chemically coated alternatives where the coating can degrade over time.

For pure light blocking — yes. The blackout capability in Lumi comes from weave structure, not weight. What heavier panels offer beyond light blocking is additional noise reduction and thermal insulation, which do increase with fabric weight. If your primary goal is darkness for sleep, a nursery, or a media room, Lumi performs identically to much heavier panels. If noise reduction or energy insulation is also a priority, our Signature (385 GSM) panels would be worth considering.

Lumi's surface is engineered to replicate the subtle slub texture of natural linen — it doesn't have the plastic sheen or flat uniformity that gives some synthetic fabrics away. From conversational distance, it reads as refined and natural. That said, we always recommend ordering a fabric swatch before committing to full panels — particularly if you're pairing Lumi with existing natural linen textiles in the same room.

Yes. Lumi uses no chemical blackout coatings — the blackout function is purely structural. There are no acrylic treatments, no foam backing, and no formaldehyde finishes. Complete darkness is also one of the most commonly recommended nursery features by pediatric sleep specialists, as it supports melatonin production and helps establish healthy sleep patterns in infants. Lumi delivers that without chemical compromise.

Edge gaps are almost always a hardware and sizing issue rather than a fabric issue. Three steps that eliminate most gaps: (1) Mount your rod or track 4–6 inches above and 6–8 inches beyond the window frame on each side. (2) Order panels wide enough to extend well past the frame — a minimum of 1.5× the rod width per panel is recommended. (3) A ceiling-mount track eliminates the gap between the rod and ceiling entirely. Our IronClad ceiling-mount track is designed specifically for this purpose.
